The Pod Office has arrived and it looks pretty cool. Can you envisage yourself working from a personal pod? Well I may introduce these pods when we move our offices when our new HQ is built because they allow for privacy whilst at the same time, fold back the pod and you can be working in a open plan office again.

For a friend

 

At the end of September I attended the funeral of a friend and mentor whom I worked with for a number of years pretty much after I was educated. This person was not only a mentor but was somebody who helped to shape and make me who I am today. She was a person that even if you have not spoken to her for three or four weeks on the phone she would send you an email and you would carry on from pretty much were you left off. She was a person who was a great deal of fun but at the same time she was always there for you as a friend and at the same time I respected her very much. She always said to me, and I believe that this statement is something that I follow, “you only get one life, it’s not a rehearsal this is the real thing, so live it and don’t waste it, have few regrets and do what you have always wanted to do because you never know may never get the opportunity again and anyway life is too short.” She wrote that down for me on a card and I still have it to this day I think it’s a very meaningful to many people. She is and will always be truely missed.

New York, New York it’s a helluva town and geez its more talk about that Blackberry

Yes boys and girls I am looking forward to spending some more of my time in New York City starting in 2 weeks time when I fly out on Thanksgiving Day to celebrate with friends in New York City and then on the Saturday night we have a big bash which we have been planning for a few weeks now where I have been asked to DJ so I am looking forward to that as DJ’ing is a part time hobby that I love doing.

Anyway my recent posts on the Blackberry Curve seem to be creating quite a steer with many people emailing or blogs picking up that “Palm’s Biggest Fan boy considering jumping ship” as one title put it. It’s far from the truth and I have yet to decide on what I envisage doing. The Blackberry Curve is impressive for sure but there are so many programs that I would miss and I kinda like my Treo. Maybe the fact that I technology wise despite what people may think in my role as webmaster for PalmAddict, I guess people think that I try every single Palm device or Windows Mobile device and yes we do get to play with a great number of toys and to be honest they are great but nothing touches the functionality of my 680. Despite that this Blackberry Curve that I have is the closest to offering me everything what my Treo is and more but I am not going to repeat what I have already mentioned previously and I am not going to be rushed into making some sort of a decision, there is 8 years of Palm experience to consider.

What is it about the Blackberry Curve 8320 that I like?

One of my readers from the PalmAddict asked me what in particular do I like about the Blackberry Curve 8320 and I have to say the following [in no particular order]Battery Life – No charges in 2 days plus I have had wifi on for at least 75% of the timeWifi – Always a nice bonus built inKeyboard – I now like the keyboard better than the Treo plus it has built in spell checker good for someone who has dyslexia like myselfSpecifications – Light, small, feels good in the handCamera – 2mp with flashMultiMedia – I can obviously play music and watch my You Tube videos that I converted for iTunesEmail – Push email is good for business but would be quite happy to use the GMail applicationDesign – It’s nicest smartphone design that I have used [except for the iPhone]OS – The OS is basic and reminds a little of Palm OS but the fact that this allows me to multitask is heavenSyncs – Syncs with my Mac thanks to The Missing Sync, everything just comes across without any problems, pictures, music, it just works.Their way of marketing won me over with helpful PR people and this website:http://www.blackberry.com/select/ask/Where you can view why people love their Blackberry devices also encouraged me to try the Blackberry. Now is this enough to win me over and make me put down my Palm OS Treo 680? I am not sure, I think it’s a case of watch this space what I will say is that no other device has tempted me away as much as this.

Congratulations to the BBC News website as it celebrates it’s 10th anniversary. It’s one of my viewed websites and is in fact the first website I check when I wake up. So congratulations again.

Torn between Blackberry and Palm

It’s been a little while because so much has been going on but I’m pretty much back on the straight and narrow and updating again. At the moment in my tech world I’m pretty torn to keeping my Treo 680 or torn between using a Blackberry. My UK blackberry contact has sent me a nice wifi enabled Blackberry 8820 to play with but if I was to get any Blackberry device it would have to be the Blackberry Curve 8320 because it has everything that I need, wifi, camera, pretty much everything and a good battery. I am so torn, years of using a Palm device and pretty much happy with using a Treo 680 or going towards the Blackberry Curve device. One thing I will say is that this must be a good device if it’s making me consider getting it.

Shortbus The Movie [not one for the kids]

This is not the type of film to show to your parents but I loved Shortbus, yesterday friends of mine and myself of course watched Shortbus for the first time. All I’ll say is that it’s a great movie but parental guidance is required, it’s not one to show the kids or your parents for that matter. Vacation

Boy I have been busy this week, plus I am off to New York on Friday so that’s always cool to see my NYC friends and al.I’m chuffed because I am going to be able to sunbathe because the weather is going to be spot on. Then I am back a week and then I am off to Spain for a little while, Sitges to be exact. I love this little place, it’s just home from home for me.
