Out-of-body experience recreated

Wow scientists have found a way to trigger out of body experiences according to the BBC now personally I am not sure whether I would like this or not. “Experts have found a way to trigger an out-of-body experience in volunteers. The experiments, described in the Science journal, offer a scientific explanation for a phenomenon experienced by one in 10 people. Two teams used virtual reality goggles to con the brain into thinking the body was located elsewhere. The visual illusion plus the feel of their real bodies being touched made volunteers sense that they had moved outside of their physical bodies.”

Google Earth does….erm….space

I see Google Earth is now mapping the stars, now that is pretty cool to say the least. Watch the You Tube video above. “With about a hundred million stars and two hundred million galaxies, Sky in Google Earth lets you explore the heavens like never before.”

This my friends is what my desk looks like today as taken by my Treo 680, yep it looks a mess mainly reflecting the mad busy day that I have had today. I have had minimal time to update my blog in the last 24 hours and this picture goes some way to explaining how busy I have been. Roll on New York next week.

Great to watch the coverage of Nasa’s Endeavour space shuttle returning to earth. I was watching the live feed from the BBC website today. The BBC do a fine job at providing a live feed of the landing.

My Memories of the Hacienda

So yesterday I went to the Hacienda event at the Urbus in Manchester. Now for those of you who have no idea what the Hacienda was, well it was a nightclub spearheaded by the management of Factory Records and to say it was a legendary night club is an understatement. Yes it had drugs, shootings even but it was my early youth. I remember sneaking in when I was 15 through the friends of someone who knew someone and it opened my eyes, not just to music but to life. No other nightclub has matched in my eyes, clubs in New York, yep come close and I am not talking about your mainstream clubs but mostly the underground ones. The Hacienda closed in the mid 90’s and in a way I am glad it did because today it would be just be a cheap tourist attraction. The Hacienda was the club that holds very happy memories for me for a number of reasons and I am glad that I have a number of souvenirs of it’s existence. I may have only been 15 at the time I paid my first visit but I grew up in that club. Anyway below are some pictures taken from the Hacienda 25 exhibition, in celebrating 25 years of the Hacienda which was set up jointly by Tony Wilson who died last week and whom his funeral will be Monday in Central Manchester. Crandall Canyon Mine – Tragic

One senses the tragicness of the Crandall Canyon Mine incident. “Three rescue workers were killed and six others were injured last night when a seismic jolt caused a mine accident during an effort to reach six men who have been trapped at the Crandall Canyon Mine since Aug. 6, mining officials said. The jolt happened about 6:30 p.m., according to the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration.” The New York Times reports.
